Friday 9th June 2006: field meeting at Brimpts Farm, Dartmoor

In conjunction with the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust, English Nature, Dartmoor National Park Authority and Butterfly Conservation, GAP are holding a field meeting at Brimpts Farm on Dartmoor.

Including;

  • Handling and training wild ponies (a live demonstration)
  • award winning farm diversification
  • good practice moorland management
  • making links between Dartmoor pony breeders and land managers.

We will look at the work of the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust, including;

  • Maintaining and increasing the numbers of Dartmoor ponies in and around Dartmoor
  • Pony support scheme
  • Marketing ponies for riding and conservation grazing across the UK
  • Visitor centre
  • Work with youth offenders and other educational work

In addition we will:

  • Discuss cattle and pony grazing on moorland and moorland management for scarce fritillaries
  • Enjoy a practical demonstration of handling and training wild ponies by 'Positive horsemanship' equine consultancy - www.positivehorsemanship.com

The day will start at 10am with coffee on arrival. A buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided. The day will end around 4pm.

Please bring wellington boots and outdoor / wet weather clothing.
